10 tip for building up fans on a Facebook band page
Posted by DIY MusicianMay 24
- Get lots of friends and invite them all. Get every band member to get a facebook account and do the same. It is also possible to re-invite people who didn’t respond the last time; but make sure to leave a good healthy period of time between re-invites and try not to re-invite too often overall. Having to say no again to the same invite as you already declined last week is probably going to be annoying.
- Put a link on your homepage or better still a Facebook fanbox. ( it’s good to get these into your sidebar/header/footer so they appear on all pages of your website)
- Always have lots of fresh content. On the other hand you need to make sure that you are not bugging people. A lot of this has to do with knowing your fanbase and what they like/dislike.
- Get fans to interact on your site. Get a bunch of dedicated fans to say things or converse on your facebook page. This makes it more interesting. You might even want to encourage fan photos/videos etc.
- Post songs, photos, video, links, youtube clips, whatever. Don’t just always post plain text about what you’re doing, even some new lyrics etc might work.
- Keep your fans “in the club” – if you can post your t-shirt designs before they are printed this is great.
- Advertise. Facebook allows you to run targeted advertising that wont break the bank. Make sure you take the time to get a good image ( photo or graphic) for you add. Don’t miss out on the branding potential which will have an effect even if nobody clicks your add.
- Tell fans (at gigs etc) about your facebook page. Don’t be afraid to let fans know that you are “building up” fans on your new Facebook page and ask them to ‘Like’ you.
- Add a reverbnation “my band” or an iLike app to your page – this will give your fans a bit more to play with and some more reason to come to your facebook page.
- Do giveaways or competitions. Warning: Facebook are pretty strict on what you can and can’t do in this regard so you might need to apply some creative thinking…..
